Alambadi is a cattle breed that originated in India’s southern state of Tamil Nadu.
Although current breeders are aiming to boost the milk yield of this historic breed, it was traditionally kept as a draught animal. The Alambadi breed is nearly extinct, and finding one is extremely difficult. Farmers and breeders are claiming that the restriction on bio-cultural sports like Raekla racing and the use of exotic foreign crossbred cows is to blame for the breed’s demise.
